Haloarenes and haloalkenes are less reactive than haloalkanes. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to resonance, C-X bond in haloarenes and haloalkenes have partial double bond character, but it is a pure single bond in haloalkanes. Hence, C-X bonds of haloarenes and haloalkenes are stronger than that of haloalkanes. Accordingly, haloarenes and haloalkenes are less reactive than haloalkanes.
