The osmotic pressure of an aqueous solut...

The osmotic pressure of an aqueous solution of urea is 500 mm Hg at 42°C. The solution after dilution at 42°C exerts an osmotic pressure of 150mm Hg. How many times is the solution diluted?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Osmotic pressure, `pi=CRT`
Before dilution 500`=C_1RT`
After dilution, `150=C_2RT`
Dividing (2) by (1), we get,
`(C_2)/(C_1)=3/(10)" or "C_2=0.3C_1`
`:.` The solution is diluted to 0.3 times.
