A body is moving uniformly on a circle with speed v. Find the magnitude of change in its velcotiy whem, it has turend an angle `theta`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`2v sin (theta //2)`

Let `v_(1)` be initial velocity and `v_(2)` be final velocity after body turened to angle `theta` , then as in fig. 347 given below,
`" "|DeltavecV| = |vecV_(2) - vecV_(1)|`
`v_(1) = v_(2) =v` (Uniform circular motion)

Now, `Deltav = sqrt(v_(1)^(2) + v_(2)^(2) + 2v_(1)v_(2) cos theta)`
`" "= sqrt( 2v^(2) + 2v^(2) costheta)`
`" "= sqrt( 2v^(2) (1- costheta))`
`" "= sqrt( 2v^(2) xx 2 sin^(2).(theta)/(2))`
`" "= 2 v sin .(theta)/(2)`
