An iron cylinder contains helium at a pressure of `250 k Pa` at `300 K`. The cylinder can withstand a pressure of `1 xx 10^(5) Pa`. The room in which the cylinder is placed catches fire. Predict whether the cylinder will blow before it melts or not (m.p of cylinder `= 1800 K`)

`P_(1) = 250 k Pa , P_(2) = ?`
`T_(1) = 300 K , T_(2) = 1800 K`
According to Gay Lussac's Law. (Corollary from Charle's Law)
`(P_(1))/(T_(1)) = (P_(2))/(T_(2))` or `P_(2) = (P_(1))/(T_(1)) xx T_(2)`
`P_(2) = ((250 k Pa) xx (1800 K))/((300 K))`
`= 1500 k Pa. = 1500 xx 10^(3) Pa = 1.5 xx 10^(6) Pa`
Since the pressure inside the cylinder is more than what it can actually withstand `(1 xx 10^(5) Pa)`. It will blow up.
