Why Frenkel defects are not found in pure alkali metal halides?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The Frenkel defect is not shown by alkali metal halides because the size of the cation is too big to be accommodated in the interstitial space. Therefore, the cation does not leave its normal position in the lattice.
