A compund is made of two elements P and ...

A compund is made of two elements `P` and `Q` are in `ccp` arrangement while atoms `P` occupy all the tetrahedral voids. What is the formula of the compound?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`P_(2)O`

Suppose the number of element Q = N
No. of tetrahedral sites = 2N
`therefore` No. of atoms of element P = 2N
The ratio P : Q = 2N : N or 2 : 1
The formula of compound = `P_(2)Q`
