Why does not formic acid form an anhydride upon heating?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Upon heating, formic acid loses a molecule of `H_(2)O` and gets dehydrated to give CO. Therefore, it does not form anhydride upon heating.
`HCOOHoverset("Heat")rarrH_(2)O+CO`
