Butan-1-ol has higher boiling point than...

Butan-1-ol has higher boiling point than diethyl ether. Assign reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Both are functional isomers. However, intermolecular hydrogen bonding is present in butan-1-ol molecules while it is absent in the molecules of diethyl ether. Therefore, boiling point of diethyl ether. Therefore, boiling point of alcohol (390 K) is higher as compared to that of ether (308 K).
