The closed containers of the same capacity and at the same temperature are filled with 44 g of `H_(2)` in one and 44 g of `CO_(2)` in the other . If the pressure of carbon dioxide in the second container is 1 atm , then pressure of hydrogen in the first container would be :

A

22 atmosphere

B

44 atmosphere

C

2 atmosphere

D

1 atmosphere

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

`n_(H_(2)) = (44)/(2) = 22 mol`
`n_(CO_(2)) = (44)/(44) = 1 mol`
`PV = n_(CO_(2)) RT ("For" CO_(2))`
`1 xx V = 1 xx R xx T`
`V = RT`....(i)
`P_(H_(2))V = n_(H_(2)) RT ("For" H_(2))`
`P_(H_(2))V = 22 RT`.....(ii)
Dividing (ii) by (i)
`(P_(H_(2))V)/(V) = (22RT)/(RT)`
`P_(H_(2)) = 22 atm`
