Find sinx/2,cosx/2 and tanx/2of the fo...

Find `sin``x/2``,cos``x/2` and `tan``x/2`of the following : `cotx=-1/3`, x in quadrant III

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since x lies in quadrant III, `pi < x < (3pi)/2`
Therefore, `pi/2 < x/2 < (3pi)/4`
Hence, `cos (x/2)`, and `tan (x/2)` are negative while `sin (x/2)` is positive as `x/2` lies in quadrant II.
It is given that `cos x = - 1/3`
