If x-1/x=-1, find the value of x^2+1/(x^...

If `x-1/x=-1,` find the value of `x^2+1/(x^2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let '`1/x=y'`
Using the formulae,'`(a−b)^2=a^2+b^2−2ab`'
⇒`'a^2+b^2(a−b)^2+2ab`
∴`x^2+y^2=(x−y)2+2xy`
`(x−y)^2−2
(−1)^2+2
=3'`.
