Which type of compound react with Ozone?...

Which type of compound react with Ozone? Explain with one example.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ozonolysis: Unsaturated huydrocarbon undergo addition with ozone and form addition compounds called ozonides. These ozonides are unstable and undergo hdyroglysis forming carbonyl compounds. This is called ozolysis.
Unsaturated hydrocarbons usually react with ozone. This is used to located multiple bonds in unsaturated compounds like alkenes, alkynes and benzene.
Eg. Ethylene undergoes addition with ozone forming ethylene ozonide. This on hydrolysis in presence of Zn dust gives formaldehyde and `H_(2)O_(2)`.
