What are special characters of vascular bundles of monocot leaves?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Many vascular bundles can be observed in the leaf, arranged in a parallel manner. Each vascular bundle is conjoint, collateral, endarch and closed, and is surrounded by a distinct parenchymatous bundle sheath in some grasses. Two distinct patches of sclerenchyma are present above and below each of the large vascular bundles and extend up to the upper and lower epidermal layers, respectively. The xylem is located towards the upper epidermis and the phloem towards the lower epidermis (endarch).
