Identify the reducing agent in the following reactions. (a) `4NH_(3)+5O_(2)to4NO+6H_(2)O" "(b) H_(2)O+F_(2)toHF+HOF` `(c)Fe_(2)O_(3)+3COto2Fe+3CO_(2)" "(d) 2H_(2)+O_(2)to2H_(2)O`

(a)`NH_(3)` is the reducing agent because it given hydrogen and itself gets oxidised to NO (Removal of H and addition of O ). `O_(2)` has been reduced to `H_(2)O` (Addition of hydrogen). (b) `H_(2)O` is the reducing agent because of the addition of electronegative F to get oxidised to HOF. It reduces `F_(2)` to HF (by addition of hydrogen). (c) `Fe_(2)O_(3)` has been reduced to Fe (Removal of oxygen). Also, CO has been oxidised to `CO_(2)` (Addition of oxygen) and hence, CO is a reducing agent. (d) `H_(2) ` is the reducing agent which itself gets oxidised to `H_(2)O` (Addition of oxygen). `O_(2)` has been reduced to `H_(2)O` (Addition of hydrogen).
