In the preparation of `H_(2)SO_(4)` by Contact process, why is `SO_(3)` not absorbed directly in water to form `H_(2)SO_(4)` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In Contact process `SO_(3)` is not absorbed directly in water to from `H_(2)SO_(4)` because the reaction is highly exothermic, acid mist is formed. Hence , the reaction becomes difficult to handle.
