Explain why ozone is thermodynamically less stable then oxygen ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ozene is thermodynamically less atable then oxygen because its decomposition into oxygen results in the liberation of heat `(DeltaH` is negative) and an increase in entropy `(DeltaS` is positive). These two effects reinforce each other, resulting in larger negative Gibbs engergy change `(DeltaG)` for its conversion into oxygen.
