Astraight line moves so that the sum of the reciprocals of its intercepts made on axes is constant. Show that the line passes through a fixed point.

The correct Answer is:

Since,the intercept form of a line is `(x)/(a)+(y)/(b)=1`
Given that, `(1)/(a)+(1)/(b)`=constant
`because (1)/(a)+(1)/(b)=(1)/(k)`
`rArr(k)/(a)+(k)/(b)=1`
So,(k,k)lies on `(x)/(a)+(y)/(b)=1`
Hence the line passes through the fixed point.
