What is the role of diaphragm and ribs in respiration ? Are both active in man and woman?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When the diaphragm flattens and the ribs moves forward , the volume of chest cavity is increased the air from outside rushes into the lungs which is called inspiration. Then the diaphragm relaxes and assumes its dome shape and the lungs move back the air from inside enters outside which is called expiration .
Diaphragm and ribs are helpful in respiration. In woman ribs play major role in respiration whereas diaphragm plays major role in man.
