Amongst the following the most basic compound is :

A

Benzylamine

B

Aniline

C

Acetanilide

D

p-nitroaniline.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

In benzylamine `(C_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)NH_(2))` the electrons on nitrogen are not delocalised on the benzene ring. In aniline and p-nitroaniline the electrons on nitrogen are delocalised over the benzene ring. In acetanilide `(CH_(3)CONHC_(6)H_(5))` the electrons on nitrogen are delocalised over the carbonyl group and benzene ring.
