the solubility of `CO_(2)` in water decreases with increases in temperature . Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The dissolution of `CO_(2)` gas in water is exothermic in nature because the gas contracts in volume. Thus , on increasing the temperature , the speed of the endothermic or reverse process will increase according to Le Chatelier's principle. Therefore , hte solubility of `CO_(2)` in water will decrease with the increase in temperature.
