Out of water and silver nitrate solution, in which case silver choride will dissolve more?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Silver chloride will dissolve more in water than in silver mitrate solution because the latter has `Ag^(+)` ions as the common ions. Therefore, the solubility of silver chloride will be suppressed in silver nitrate solution.

Can we place silver nitrate solution in an iron vessel? Why or why not?

The impure 6g of NaCl is dissolved in water and then treated with excess of silver nitrate solution. The mass of p[recipitate of silver chloride is found to be 14g. The % purity of NaCl solution would be:

2.66 g of chloride of a metal when treated with silver nitrate solution, gave 2.87 g of silver chloride 3.37 g of another chloride of the same metal gave 5.74 g of silver chloride when treated with silver nitrate solution. Show that the results illustrate the law of multiple proportions.
