Explain why transition metals and their many compounds act as good catalyst.

In heterogenous catalysis, the reactant species are adsorbed on the calalyst surface and take part in chemical reaction to from the products. These are to be released from the surface or to get dissociated in order to accommodate more reacting species. This is know as desorption. Thus. dusorption is very significant in the catalysed reaction. For more details, consult section 10 (Theory of heterogeneous catalysis).
