What role does adsorption play in heterogeneous catalysis ?

Explanation

In catalysed reactions involving gases as the reactants, the gas molecules diffuse on to the surface of the solid catalyst and ger adsorbed. After the desired chemical reaction has taken place, the products formed, diffuse away from the catalyst surface in order to accommodate more reactants.
