What happens when freshly precipitated ferric hydroxide is treated with dilute solution of ferric chloride ?

Text Solution

The `Fe^(3+)` ions are adsorbed on the surface of `Fe(OH)_(3)` particles. As a result, they get positively charged. The charges particles repel each other and from colloidal solution. This is known as pertisation.
`underset("Parecipitate ")(Fe(OH)_(3))+underset((FeCl_(3)))(Fe^(3+)) tounderset("Colloidal sol.")([Fe(OH)_(3)]Fe^(3+))`
