Sulphur dioxide is a more powerful reducing agent in the alkaline medium than in the acidic medium. Assign reason.

The reducing nature of `SO_(2)` in the alkaline medium is shown by the following equation.
`SO_(2)+2OH^(-) harr SO_(4)^(2-)+2H^(+)+2e^(-)`

The addition of acid `(H^(+))` favours the reverse reaction. Therefore, sulphur dioxide fails to act as reducing agent in the acidic medium. In the alkaline medium, `H^(+)` ions formed as the products are removed. This favours the forward reaction. As a result, `SO_(2)` acts as a reducing agent in the alkaline medium.

Identify the incorrect statement qquad a) SF_(6) is known but not SCl_(6) .b) Three are two d pi - p pi ' bonds in SO_(2) c) In gamma-SO_(3) there are six S-O and S=O 'bonds d) SO_(2) is more powerful reducing agent in alkaline medium than in acidic medium

Reduction of in an alkaline medium gives

Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidising agent, both in the acidic and alkaline medium. In acidic medium: H_(2)O_(2)+2H^(o+)+2e^(ɵ)to2H_(2)O In alkaline medium: H_(2)O_(2)+2e^(ɵ)to2overset(Theta)(O)H Hydrogen peroxide acts as a reducing agent towards powerful oxidising agents. In acidic medium: H_(2)O_(2)to2H^(o+)+O_(2)+2e^(ɵ) In alkaline medium, however, its reducing nature is more effective. H_(2)O_(2)to2H^(o+)+O_(2)+2e^(ɵ) In which of the following reactions, H_2O_2 act as a reducing agent?
