What is meant by 'disproportionation'? Give two examples of disproportionation reaction in aqueous solution.

In a disproportionation reaction, an element undergoes an increase as well as decrase in its oxidation state forming two different compounds. In other words, we can say that is can act both as reducing agent as well as oxidising agent.
