Why are different colours observed in octahedral and tetrahedral complexes for the same metal and same ligands ?

We know that crystal field stablising energy for a tetrahedral complex `(Deltat)` is less than for an octahedral complex `(Deltat=4//9 Delta_(0))`. This means that `Deltat` is nearly 45% as compared to `Delta_(0)`. This means that a higher wavelength is absorbed in case of octahedral complex compared to the same metal and same ligand. This also implies that the emitted wavelength will be also different and the complexes will have different colours.
