The pulley is light and smooth`:` the strings are inextensible and light. The system is released from rest, find the acceleration of each block, tensions in the strings and reaction in pulley.

Text Solution

Solving eqs (i). (ii) and (iii), we get
`a=6 ms^(-1)`
`T_(1)=20N`
`T_(2)=32N`
Forces on pulley, R=`2T_(2)`=0 (pulley in massless)
`R=2T_(2)=64 N`

where R is the reaction in the pulley.
