A 2 kg mass placed on a level table and ...

A 2 kg mass placed on a level table and is attached by a string passing over the edge of a table as illustrated in the diagram.

(i) Calculate the magnitude of acceleration of the system.
(ii) Calculate the tension in the string.

From FBD in `m_(1)`
`T-m_(1)a=0`
`implies T-2a=0`……(i)
FBD in `m_(2)`
`m_(2)g-T=m_(2)a`
`5g-T=5a`
Putting T=2a from Eq. (i)
5g-2a=5a
7a=5g
`a=(5)/(7)xx10=(50)/(7) ms^(-2)`
Again Tension in the string
`T=2a=2xx(50)/(7)=(10)/(7) N`
