A block of mass 5 kg rests on a inclined plane at an angle of `30^(@)` with the horizontal. If the block just begins to slide, then what is the coefficient of static friction between the block and the surface?

In equilibrium, the resultant of these force must be zero.

`therefore mg sin theta=f_(s)`………(i)
and `mg cos theta=N`……..(ii)
`therefore tan theta= (f_(s))/(N)`[Dividing Eq. (i) and (ii)]
As `f_(s)=mu_(s)N`
`therefore tan theta=mu_(s)`
` therefore mu_(s) = tan 30^(@) therefore mu_(s)=0.577`
