Two sound of very close frequencies say 256 Hz and 260 Hz are produced simultaneously. What isw the frequency of resultant sound and also write the number of beats heard in one second ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Frequency of resultant sound
`v_(av)=(v_(1)+v_(2))/(2)=(256+260)/(2)`
`=258 Hz`
`:. {:("Number of beats"),("heard in one second"):}}=260-256=4`

The frequency of source of sound is 10Hz. How many times does it vibrate in one minute?

Two sources P and Q produce notes of frequency 660 Hz each. A listener moves from P to Q with a speed of 1 ms^(-1) . If the speed of sound is 330 m//s , then the number of beats heard by the listener per second willl be

A sound has a frequency of 60 Hz and a wavelength of 20 m. What is the speed of the sound?

Assertion : When two tuning forks are vibrating with frequencies 256 Hz and 480 Hz are held near each other, beats cannot be heard. Reason : The principle of super position is valid if the frequencies of the oscillators are nearly equal.
