Why horse has to pull a cart harder during the first few steps of his motion

Text Solution

During the first few steps of his motion the horse has to work against the limiting friction and once the cart starts moving the horse has to work against kinetic friction which is less than limiting friction.

When a cricket player catches the ball he pulls his hand gradually in the direction of the ball 's motion given reason

A block of mas 2.0 kg is pulled up on a smooth incline of angle 30^0 with the horizontal. If the block moves wth an acceleration of 1.0 m/s^2 , find the power delivered by the pulling force at a time 4.0 s after the motion starts. What is the average power delivered during the 4.0 s after the motion starts?

A man stands before a large wall at a distance of 50.0 m and claps his hands at regular intervals. Initially, the interval is large. He gradually reduces the interval and fixes it at a value when the echo of a clap merges with the next clap. If he has to clap 10 times during every 3 seconds, find the velocity of sound in air.

The heavier block in an atwood machine has a mass twice that of the lighter one. The tension in the string is 16.0 N when the system is set into motion. Find the decrease in the gravitational potential energy during the first second after the system is released from rest.

Consider a horse attached to the cart which is initially at rest. If the horse starts walking forward, the cart also accelerates in the forward direction. If the horse pulls the cart with force F_h in forward direction, then according to Newton's third law, the cart also pulls the horse by equivalent opposite force F_c = F_h in backward direction. Then total force on cart+horse' is zero. Why is it then the 'cart+horse'accelerates and moves forward?
