For aluminium the bulk modulus and modulus of rigidity are `7.5xx10^(10)Nm^(-2)and2.1xx10^(10)Nm^(-2)`. Find the velocity of longitudinal waves in the medium. Density of aluminium is `2.7xx10^(3)kgm^(-3)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here `k=7.5xx10^(10)Nm^(-2),eta=2.1xx10^(10)Nm^(-2),rho=2.7xx10^(3)kgm^(-3)`.
Velocity of longitudinal waves in aluminium is,
`v=sqrt((k+(4)/(3)eta)/(rho))`
`=sqrt((7.5xx10^(10)+(4)/(3)xx2.1xx10^(10))/(2.7xx10^(3)))`
`=6.18xx10^(3)ms^(-1)`.
