Find the length of chord cut on x-axis f...

Find the length of chord cut on x-axis from the circle `x^(2)+y^(2)-5x-2y+6=0`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

At x-axis, `y=0`
Put in the equation of the circle `x^(2) +y^(2) -5x -2y +6 =0` , we get
`x^(2)-5x+6=0`
`rArr(x-2)(x-3)=0`
`rArrx=2or x=3`
`:.` Circle cuts x-axis at the points (2,0) and (3,0)
Now, the length of chord cut on x-axis
`= sqrt((3-2)^(2)+(0-0)^(2))=1` unit.
