Assertion: Electrons in the atom are held due to coulomb forces.
Reason: The atom is stable only because the centripetal force due to Coulomb's law is balanced by the centrifugal force.

A

if both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

if both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

if assertion is true but reason is false.

D

if both assertion and reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
C

According to postulates of bohr's atom model, the electron revolve round the nucleus in fixed orbit of deinite radii. As long as the electron is in a certain orbit, it does not radiate any energy. Not only the centripetal force has to be centrifugal force, even the stable orbits are fixed by borh's theory.

Assetrion: The coulomb force is the dominating force in the universe. Reason: The coulomb force is weaker than the gravitational force.

Assertion: The centripetal forces and centrifugal forces never cancel out. Reason: They do not act at the same time.

Assertion : Centripetal and centrifugal forces can- cel each other. Reason : This is because they are always equal and opposite.
