Do you think that interference pattern in Young's double slit experiment is the consequence of the superposition of the diffracted waves from the two slits?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes. The interference pattern in the Young.s double slit experiment is the consequence of superposition of the two diffracted waves from each slit. If the size of the aperture of the slits is less than the wavelength of incident light wave, the size of maxima in interference pattern will be of uniform intensity. However, if `a=lambda_(1)` , the interference pattern will look like a diffraction pattern with secondary maximum and secondary minimum.
