Reagent (s) which can be used to bring about the following transformation is (are)

A

`LiAIH_(4)` in `(C_(2)H_(5))_(2)O`

B

`BH_(3)` in THF

C

`NaBH_(4)` in `C_(2)H_(5)OH`

D

Raney `Ni//H_(2)` in THF

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`LiAIH_(4)` in `(C_(2)H_(5))_(2)O: BH_(3)` in (THF) : Raney `Ni(H_(2))` either can reduce all functional group or can reduce some of the functional group of the compound given above in reactant side.
But `NaBH_(4)` is example of selective reducing agent. it can not reduce `-underset(O)underset(||)C-O-` (ester group), `-underset(O)underset(||)C-OH` (carboxylic acid group_, (epoxide group), but reduces `-CH=O` (Aldehyde group) into `-CH_(2)OH(1^(@(` alcohol)
