The metal carbon bond in metal carbonyls possess bith `sigma and pi` character. The M-C `simga` bond if formed by the `M leftarrow C = O `while M-C `pi` bond if formed by the donation of a pair of electron from filled d-orbital of metal to aibinding `pi*` orbital of CO.
(ii)
(a) `t_(2g) ^(3)e_(g)^(2)`
(b) `t_(2g) ^(5)e_(g)^(0)`

What is meant by crystal field splitting energy? On the basis of crystal field theory, write the electronic configuration of d^(4) in terms of t_(2g) and e_(g) in an octahedral field when (i) Delta_(0)gtP (ii) Delta_(0)ltP

According to crystal field therory the electronic configuration of the [Cr(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+) ion when (Delta ltP) (Delta = CFSE, P= "Pairing energy") .
