The acid present in ant sting is methanoic acid of formic acid. Its chemcal formula is HCOOH. Being posisonous in nature, it causes pain and irritation. Even blisters may appear on the stung area. One should immediately rub the stung area with a mid base like baking soda `(NaHCO_(3)).` It will react with formic acid to from salt and water. Its poisonous effect will be completely neutralised.
`underset("Methnoic acid"(HCOOH)+NaHCO_(3)to underset("Sod. methanoate")(HCOONa)+CO_(2)+H_(2)O`
Remember : We should never apply sodium hydroxide pellets or solution directly or the affected protion. Being strongly corrosive in nature, it will aggrievate pain by forming more blisters. However, sodium hydrogen carbonate can be applied.
