A beaker containing water is placed on the platform of a spring balance. The balance reads `1.5 kg.` A stone of mass `0.5 kg` and density `10^(4) kg//m^(3)` is immersed in water without touching the walls of the beaker. What will be the balance reading now?

A

`2kg`

B

`2.5kg`

C

`1kg`

D

`3kg`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

`rho_("water")=2rho_("stone")`
So only half of the volume of block will immesed into liquid. To immersed block fully a mass of `0.5kg` has to be put. So
scale reading `=(1.5+0.5+0.5)kg" "implies "scale reading" = 2.5kg`
