Number of visible lines when an electron returns from 5th orbit to ground state in H spectrum :

A

`5`

B

`4`

C

`3`

D

`10`

The correct Answer is:
C

Shortest wave length of Lyman series of H-atom
`1/lambda=1/x=R[1/((1)^(2))-1/((oo)^(2))]` So, `x=1/R`
For Balmes series
`1/lambda=R (1)^(2){1/((2)^(2))-1/((3)^(2))}`
`1/lambda=1/x xx5/36` so, `lambda=(36 x)/(5)`
