An isolated conducting sphere of charge ...

An isolated conducting sphere of charge Q and radius R is grounded by using a high resistance wire. What is the amount of heat loss ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When sphere is grounded, it's potential become zero which means all charge goes to earth (since sphere is conducting and isolated)
so, all energy in sphere is converted into heat
So, total loss `=(kQ^(2))/(2R)`
