Analysis shows that nickel oxide has the formula `Ni_(0.98)O_(1.00)`. What fractions of nickel "exist" as `Ni^(2+)` and `Ni^(3+)` ions?

Let there are x ions of `Ni^(+3)` and (98 - x) ions of `Ni^(+2)`
`therefore 3x+2(98-x)=200`
x = 4
`therefore %` of `Ni^(+3)=(4xx100)/(98)=4%`
and % of `Ni^(+2)=96%`
