What will be the nature of the salt formed when 2 mol NaOH is added to the aqueous solution of 1 mol pyrophosphoric acid ? Give an equation .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

From the structure of pyrophosphoric acid, it is clear that it contains four replaceable hydrogen atoms
So the reaction between `H_(4)P_(2)O_(7)`and 2 mol NAOH will be as follows-`H_(4)P_(2)O_(7) +2NaOHtoNa_(2)H_(2)P_(2)O_(7)+2H_(2)O`
There are two replacement H- atoms in `Na_(2)H_(2)P_(2)O_(7)` fromed due to the above reaction .So it is an an acidic salt
