When phenol treated with chloroform `(CHCI_(3))` in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide ( NaOH) product will be 2 - hydroxy benzaldehyde ( salicylaldehyde).

When phenol react with `CO_(2)` NaOH it gives salicylic acid (o hydroxy benzoic acid).
