What will be the conversion factor when you change a value expressed in newton to dyne?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

N and dyn are the units of force in SI and CGS systems respectively.
The dimension of force [ F] =ML `T^(-2)`
Let 1 N = n dyn
Then using the base units in the dimension ,
1 kg . M. `s^(-2)` = n g. cm. `s^(-2)`
or `" " n =(1kg)/(1g)xx(1m)/(1 cm)xx((1s)/(1s))^(-2)`
`=(10^(3)g)/(1g)xx(10^(2)"cm")/(1"cm")xx1=10^(5)`
`:." "1 N=10^(5) `dyn
So, the conversion factor is `10^(5)`.
