When will the magnitude of the resultant...

When will the magnitude of the resultant of two equal vectors be
(ii) `sqrt(3)` times the magnitude of each of them ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the value fo each vector be a and the angle between the two vectors be `alpha`.
(ii) In this case, magnitude of the resultant `=sqrt(3a)`
`therefore (sqrt(a))^2= a^2+a^2+2a*a cos alpha`
or, `2a^2 cosalpha =a^(2) or, cos alpha =1/2=cos 60^(@)`
`therefore alpha =60^(@)`
The angle between the two vectors will be `60^(@)`.
