Two spting having force constant k1 and ...

Two spting having force constant `k_1 and k_2 (k_1gt k_2)` respectively increases its length by same amount . On which spring work done will be more and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the increase in length of each spring `W_1 =1/2 k_1x^2`
and work done on the second spring ,`W_2=1/2 k_2x^2`
`therefore (W_1)/(W_2)=(k_1)/(k_2) [because k_1 gt k_2` (given)]
`or, W_1 gt W_2`
Hence, more work will be done on the first spring.
