Work done for a certain spring when stretched through 1mm is 10J . The amount of work that must be done on the spring to stretch if further by 1mm is

A

30J

B

40J

C

10J

D

20J

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Work done in stretching the spring ,`W=1/2 kx^2`
[the spring is stretched by x,force constant of the spring is k]
When x=1mm , work done `W_1=1/2 k=10J`
`therefore k=20J`
When the spring is stretched further 1mm ,x=2 mm
`therefore` Work done `W_2=1/2 k(2)^2=2k=40J`
So, work done to stretch the spring further by
40-10 =30J
