A flat disc, a solid cube and a solid sphere of equal mass made of the same material are completely immersed in water. Which one of them will experience the minimum and which one will experience the maximum buoyant force?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When a body is immersed completely in water, then the buoyant force becomes equal to the weight of the water displaced by the body. Here, the masses of the three bodies are equal and they are made of the same material (i.e,. Of the same density) and hence their volumes are equal. Hence, in each case the weight of the displaced water becomes equal and the same buoyant force is experienced.
